Truro Shotokan Karate

The Truro Shotokan Karate club meets

Anyone considering learning the martial arts is encouraged to come and try a free lesson to find out if shotokan is for you. All ages from 5 years and older are welcome. Loose clothing should be worn.

At present we have students as young as 11 years and our newest member at the time of this writing is beginning karate in his fifties. Shotokan is suitable for all ages and both sexes. Two female members of the club are on the Nova Scotia Karate team as is one of the men. Recently Kathy Ryan, Jim Kennedy and Felicia Strickland competed for Team Nova Scotia in the National Karate Championships.

Truro Shotokan Karate is a member of the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) . We are a non-profit organization and all club dues are used to supply training facilities and club benefits. Instruction is given on a volunteer basis in the formal traditions of shotokan karate.

Our Sensei, or chief instructor, is Charles Surrette, a fifth degree black belt. He is assisted in the role of instructor by other black belts in the club. Annually he participates in various training events to maintain his skills and to increase his knowledge and practice of karate so as to maintain the highest possible standards of instruction for the club.
